THE NEED.

Tuesday January 12, 2010, Haiti was hit by a devastating 7.0 earthquake. This earthquake is the largest disaster in the western hemisphere in 200 years! Most of Port-au-Prince (the capitol city of Haiti) was destroyed, and there has been tremendous loss of life and property throughout the entire country.
WAYS TO GET INVOLVED.

04. PREPARE FOR FUTURE RECOVERY AND REBUILDING

It will take a long time for Haiti to recover. ROCK Church is determined to serving Haiti for a long time. We are already looking to adjust our missions plans for this year. We are researching sending teams to Haiti to help with recovery. Right now, there is not the opportunity to put teams on the ground. But, in the next 60-90 days, there will be many opportunities for teams to serve.

Start praying now about going. If you feel it is something God wants for you, start getting ready now. We will link up with Healing Place Church in Baton Rouge, LA to send teams. There will opportunities for teams to serve in these areas:

Construction and clean-up

Children’s ministry

Pastoral counseling

Medical care

Cooking and feeding

We have some very exciting changes coming to Kid’s ROCK. Beginning January 3rd, Kid’s ROCK will be based on grade level instead of age. We will also be relocating some of our classes.

What will that mean for your children?
It will mean that, starting in January, kids will move to the class that is appropriate for their grade level and instead of changing classes throughout the year, our kids will move on a designated Sunday in the summer.

What are the grade levels of the classes?

ROCK-a-Bye Babies & ROCK Climbers: Birth through 3 years
Wee ROCK: 3 years*
ROCK Stars: Pre-K (4 years)* & Kindergarten
Club ROCK: 1st through 3rd grade
remix!: 4th & 5th grade
Double Take: Double service kids 1st through 5th grade
Flipside (on Wednesday nights): Middle & High School

*Age of child when birthday falls on or before August 31st of current year

Will my child have to move backwards if they are already in a particular class?
No child will be required to move backwards. If they are already in a class, they can stay in that class, but they will stay in that class until it is time to move up to the next grade level.

What classes will be moving?
The nursery and nursing mothers room will be relocated to the former Outreach kitchen and childcare offices area. Check-In will be located in several locations for better convenience.

Why change to grade levels?
This will allow kids to build deeper more personal relationships with teachers and classmates. Kids will move as a class so the fears of moving to a new class will be lessened by the fact that they are moving with their friends.

Can we help?
Yes! We need everyone with kids to fill out a new registration card. There will also be lots of painting, building, data entry, and moving that has to take place in the next few weeks, email us for specifics.

Still have more questions?
Email us your questions at helen@rockwilmington.com or matthew@rockwilmington.com

Starting Sunday, August 30th, ROCK Church starting having 2 services each Sunday at 9:00 and 11:00. Why are we doing this? We are caring for each other. We are devoting Sundays to worship, honor, serve and learn about Jesus. We are preparing for the harvest. But, the most important reason is that God said. He said to get ready. So, that’s what we are doing.

It has been a process with a LOT of very complex components. Without her coding/graphic design genius, this would not be possible! Not only has she created an incredible site, she has done it while leading all of our Media Arts.

Like so many at ROCK Church, Carolyn’s passion, drive and creativity help us propel this vision forward. She is an incredible gift to our ministry. Carolyn, YOU ROCK!

Maybe now we can get her back to blogging again…

Now it’s on to another great adventure!
